Biography
I’m looking for a role as a Junior Engineer, where I can use my Full Stack skills to collaborate and learn as part of a team. Improving software and systems efficiencies is something I’ve enjoyed throughout my career in hospitality management. My client relations background has also taught me the value of solutions-based communication, which was enormously helpful during the Software Engineering course at General Assembly.
What I'm Learning Now
Through reading and talking to other industry professionals I have been made aware of how important and helpful Test Driven Development can be in our everyday work. Therefore I have recently completed the Learn Unit Testing with Mocha course on Codecademy. Keen to translate this knowledge into somthing I can use in React I have started the React Testing with Jest and Enzyme course by Bonnie Schulkin on Udemy.
It was recently recommended to me that I read up about the Next.js framework as it addresses a number of issues that I have noticed when working with React, in particluar SEO optimisation and faster initial page loading times. Bringing together the Front and Backend with this Full Stack framework is really satisfying and I am now doing the Next.js & React course by Maximilian Schwarzmüller at Academind (also on Udemy).
When I'm Not Coding
I love trail and road running and try to go hiking with friends as much as possible. A group of us have a plan to walk a part of the Via Alpina route in Europe next year.
When I'm not in London I can't wait to get out on my bike. In 2017 I cycled solo from London to Santander, Spain, free-camping along the way and I also enjoy cycling up famous climbs from the Tour de France and other competitions.
I have been skiing on some of the most challenging off-piste and backcountry routes around Europe and North America, often with serious climbing or ski-tours needed for access.

Projects
GA Project One - Face/Off - Space Invaders
A solo-effort building a browser-based game styled off Space Invaders (but themed around the film Face/Off) using Vanilla JS, HTML and CSS.
GA Project Two - Movie Quiz
Pair-programming a small site consuming data from a public API (trivia.willfry.co.uk) to create a multi-page quiz game using React, SCSS and the Bulma CSS framework.
GA Project Three - AirStudio
Working in a team of 3 using Git version control to build a MERN full-stack app with CRUD functionality for 2 models built with Mongoose. The concept for this project was based on being 'the Airbnb of recording-studios'. As a group we built out the backend together, whilst on the frontend I had responsibility for User Authorisation and Favouriting functionality amongst other things. Styling was done with a combination of the Bootstrap and the React-Bootstrap frameworks.
GA Project Four - Painterest
Pair-programming to create a social-media oriented site based on Pinterest. A special concentration on following users and direct messaging features using Django and Postgres for the backend and React and Bootstrap for the frontend. The backend was done in tandem with my partner whilst my main frontend responsibilities were for Search and Posts functionality amongst other things.

I am working as Full Stack Developer in an Agile dev setup in this fast-growing and diverse start-up. This role is primarily remote-based, with some office days whilst there is a high level of autonomy and freedom to work on project or technologies that interest you or you want to know more about.
Software Engineering Immersive Student, General Assembly, London – June 2021 - Sept 2021
A full time (9am-5pm daily) deep-dive into the fundamentals of some of the most commonly used Full Stack programming languages and their uses.
Front Office Supervisor, Soho Farmhouse, Oxfordshire – Feb 2020 - July 2021
I assisted in managing a department of 38 line staff at this 130-Bed Hotel with a yearly occupancy rate of 99%, 5 busy restaurants and numerous activities and events.
